How to play?

Checkers, also known as Draughts in some regions, is a two-player strategy board game played on an 8x8 grid. The game is relatively simple to learn, but it can be quite challenging to master.

Setup:

  1. Use an 8x8 checkerboard with alternating dark and light squares.
  2. Each player starts with 12 pieces placed on the three rows closest to them. These pieces are typically referred to as "men."
  3. Players place their pieces only on the dark squares.

Objective: The goal of the game is to capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them so that they cannot make any legal moves.

Movement:

  1. Men can move diagonally forward one square at a time to an adjacent dark square, but they can never move backward.
  2. Capturing is mandatory when possible. If one of your pieces can jump over an opponent's piece diagonally in an adjacent square and land on an empty square behind it, you must make that capture. You can make multiple consecutive captures in a single turn, also known as a "double jump" or "multiple jump."

Kinging: When a man reaches the opponent's back row (the farthest row from the player), it is crowned a "king." Kings have the following special abilities:

  1. Kings can move diagonally forward or backward.
  2. They can make long-range jumps over multiple opponent pieces in a single turn.
  3. When a king captures an opponent's piece, it can choose to stop immediately after the capture or continue capturing in the same turn.

Winning the Game: A player wins by either:

  1. Capturing all of their opponent's pieces.
  2. Stalemate: If one player is unable to make any legal moves (their pieces are blocked), the other player wins.

Optional Rules: There are some optional rules and variations in different regions. Some common optional rules include:

  1. Flying Kings: Kings can move over empty squares diagonally, not just jumping over opponent pieces.
  2. Anti-King: A player who reaches the opponent's back row must remove their piece from the board instead of making it a king.

These are the basic rules of checkers. The game is known for its strategic depth and can be quite competitive, even at a casual level.
